Community Resilience and Climate Adaptation (CRaCA)

CRaCA is a working group of the Belgrave & Tecoma Township Group. Like BTTG, we’re about building a stronger, more supportive community, so Belgrave and Tecoma can thrive in good times and hard times.

Our area faces growing pressures. Fires, storms and heatwaves are more frequent. Insurance is getting harder to afford. Emergency and community services are stretched, and too many people feel isolated. These challenges are real, but so are our strengths. We have generous neighbours, active community groups and volunteers, established emergency services, a vibrant arts scene and a beautiful natural environment.

Often these strengths aren’t well connected. CRaCA’s role is to link them up, build on what’s already here, and help fill the gaps.

Our story so far

CRaCA grew out of The Adaptation Game event held at Burrinja in May 2026. Our first meeting in June 2026 set our two priority areas. Our local paper reported on it.

In July 2026, Jay and Caitlin from Resilience Canopy helped us map our community’s strengths and concerns. That work continues to shape our priorities, and a few of our group went on to complete The Resilience Canopy facilitator training.

Initial focus

The inaugural meeting of CRaCA, held on 4 June 2026, identified two priority action areas.

The first is growing neighbourhood connections through initiatives such as street-by-street networks, local representatives, communication systems such as phone trees or WhatsApp groups, and community garden maintenance and working bees.

The second is developing a community inventory to better understand local assets, skills, organisations, infrastructure and emergency resources across the 3160 area. This could include mapping community capabilities, compiling directories of skills and equipment, preparing an emergency hub, and creating practical tools such as a community resource guide.
